Next Gen starts rough and season one has some blatant issues regarding sexualization, and even racial issues. Though, I think that when it came out it was still considered progressive despite these flaws. It gets better as it goes on and even comparable to Voyager or DS9 in its portrayal of women. Not trying to excuse it, just saying that there is a big difference between season 1 and 7 and it seems as though the producers became more aware as it went on and if there is anything that should be respected this day and age its people who learn and grow in a positive direction which is really what Star Trek is actually about in all of it's productions.
