My first officer went out to do a preflight one day and found a small knick in one of the fan blades on the engine, and it had sharp edges. Now this isn't necessarily a big deal but it is something that needs to get noted by maintenance so they can either blend it out with a file or track it. (this is pretty common, some times the engines pick up small pieces of gravel or whatever). I called for maintenance to come out but it was going to be about 15-20 minutes because it was contracted out and their offices weren't at the airport. No big deal there's usually extra time built into the plan and ways we can make up a little time and once they did show up I knew it was a quick 5-10 minute fix including time to fill out paperwork.
