I cringe at the thanks for your service thing. And I think it’s kind of weird. (But, ill take that military discount from Home Depot, thank you very much.). I think it’s more of a result of the current wars that the thank you thing started. The PR department of the government did a very good job of getting the US behind these wars .I got undergrad and grad school paid for, so it wasn’t some Noblesse Oblige or Hemingway inspired sense of proving ones manhood that motivated me. It was an easy way to pay for schools!
